MICRO FINANCE FOR CREDIT AND ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT (CED)

Under its Credit and Enterprise Development (CED) program, the Hashoo Foundation facilitates and administers provision of small loans to existing and new beekeepers to add another dimension to its Women Empowerment through Honey Bee Farming Project Plan Bee. These small loans would enable the women keepers to purchase more hives to achieve economies of scale and expand their enterprise. Beneficiaries have been chosen after conducting an extensive baseline survey. Three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with the following universities:

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR)

Improving the lives of rural farmers.
The 5-Star Hotels, part of the Hashoo Group, Marriott and Pearl Continental in Pakistan, have discontinued their contracts with commercial suppliers and buy the honey produced by the beekeepers in Gilgit-Baltistan. The price the hotels are paying for the women bee farmers' honey is higher than what they paid commercial suppliers.

The Hashoo Group of Hotels has adopted Plan Bee as their CSR project and choose to purchase this honey due to its high quality and to enhance conditions for rural farmers.

The sale of the honey has expanded from Hashoo Group of hotels to superstores such as D. Watson, Shaheen and CSD. CSD, a major nationwide retail outlet in Pakistan, has agreed to display our new branded honey for sale in their 99 stores nationwide.

Additionally, Hashoo Foundation is selling 50 kg of honey in bulk to Serena Islamabad. The profits from this sale are invested back into the project in terms of training and expansion cost.

HONEY THAT PAYS FOR EDUCATION

Over 1,000 girls and boys have access to quality education.

Plan Bee is based on a system of social barter, designed to promote social change. Hashoo Foundation buys the women beekeepers' honey for 20% above the market price and successfully links them to the lucrative markets of 5-Star hotels in Pakistan provided that the families agree to send their children to quality schools, have regular health check-ups and improve nutrition at home.
