Sarah Hashwani Attends Pakistan Recovery Fund Gala Dinner
On Tuesday 8th December, Ms Sarah Hashwani, Chair of the Hashoo Foundation attended a gala dinner presided by HRH The Prince of Wales, in aid of the Pakistan Recovery Fund.
The event, held at London’s Natural History Museum saw HRH Prince Charles reiterate his concern about the victims of the devastating floods and encourage people from the UK to continue donating to the Pakistan Recovery Fund.
The Pakistan Recovery Fund, set up by HRH The Prince of Wales is a time-bound initiative dedicated to raising around £2-5milliion of aid for flood victims. The Fund is convened by the British Asian Trust, one of HRH The Prince of Wales’ charities. The British Asian Trust will work alongside partner organizations and local delivery partners to ensure transparency and accountability.
The leadership committee of the Pakistan Recovery Fund, which also includes Ms. Hashwani, will employ a robust due diligence process which will allow funds to be channeled to effective local delivery partners operating in the Punjab and Sindh regions to provide support in four key areas: homes, education, health and livelihoods. Without basic shelter, protection from common disease and an opportunity to learn and develop for the disaster-stricken citizens, Pakistan will continue struggling to rebuild itself. By focusing on these key areas, the Pakistan Recovery Fund will provide critical assistance to victims of both the 2010 and 2011 floods.
Ms. Hashwani said: “It was an honour to be seated next to HRH The Prince of Wales and discuss the future prospects for the region. Prince Charles’ commitment and dedication to supporting the victims is clear and resolute. The Pakistan Recovery Fund will ensure that the moneys raised through the public’s efforts are used in the most effective manner. It is essential to provide long term sustainable aid and to help restore and rebuild the lives and the region.”
Hashoo Foundation, along with four other aid organisations, will be one of the Fund’s key implementing partners, working in the Layyah Region to deliver an innovative dairy farming project that will enhance the livelihoods of dairy farmers through capacity development and developing market linkages.
Ms Hashwani added: “We are delighted that Hashoo Foundation has been confirmed as an implementing partner for the Pakistani Recovery Fund. Our teams in Pakistan are not only experienced but also very committed to working in Layyah district to ensure that the dairy farmers start recuperating and moving forward with their lives.”
