AICB donated 1,500 buckets to the Hashoo Foundation USA to support the Alliance of Pakistan Floods Relief Efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Sindh affected by the 2011 floods which destroyed the livelihood of millions of people in Pakistan.
The Alliance mobilized the Houston giving community and local businesses who generously joined our efforts by donating the necessary nutritious dry foods, medicines and hygiene items to fill the AICB buckets, while other organizations donated blankets, head cups and slippers.
The preparation and farewell ceremony of the 40-feet container loaded with humanitarian aid was hosted by the Alliance of Pakistan Floods Relief Efforts at the Pakistan Association of Greater Houston (PAGH). The ceremony was attended by the Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Honorable Congressman Al Green, Honorable Consul General of Pakistan Honorable Aqil Nadeem, Honorable Consul General of Turkey Jemalettin Aydin, City of Houston Representative Honorable City Councilman Al Haoung, members of the media, sponsors and community volunteers.
The container valued at over $100,000 in in-kind donations, departed from the Port of Houston to the Port of Karachi on December 6, 2011, and it is expected to reach the people of Sinhd before the end of January 2012.

Last year, AICB partnered with Hashoo Foundation USA in response to the 2010 floods and donated 1,104 buckets providing 72,000 meals and blessing the lives of more than 6,600 people in relief camps in Karachi, Pakistan.

Karachi.- Pakistan Centre of Pakistani-American Association of Greater Houston (PAGH) sent relief goods and funds for flood-affected people of Sindh.
According to the latest reports around three million people in Sindh are still suffering from the after affects of the floods of late August and early September 2011.
Houston Alliance of Pakistan Floods Relief Efforts coordinator Muhammad Saeed Sheikh said $81,000 was raised in cash and more than $100,000 wholesale value of in-kind donated items was raised by the alliance to benefit the flood victims of Pakistan.
On the occasion of preparation and sending-off ceremony of 40-feet container termed the Benevolent Container from the Houstonians Community for the brethren in humanity in Sindh, Pakistan, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said the United States of America stands for its commitment towards the economic and social well-being of Pakistan and its community living in USA.
Lee said, “She is extremely sorrowful on the recent loss of army soldiers as well as several of the Pakistani army personnel and civilians losing their lives in this war on terrorism.”
These are trying days in the US-Pakistan relations, we need to continue informing leaders of US and Pakistan that this friendship should be strengthened rather than weaken.
Pakistani business community in US is the equal partner in economic and social well being of the country.
She said Pakistan is an important partner with the US at home and abroad and Pakistani American are integrally woven into the fabric of our country, state and city.
She said the US is committed to forging an even closer relationship between the two countries and communities.
The members of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce-USA said thousands of Pakistan nationals were working in the different fields in US, which was a great honour for the business community of Pakistan.
Congressperson AL Green besides consul generals of Pakistan and Turkey Aqil Nadeem and Cemalettin Aydin were the special guests at the event.
President of the Texas-Turkish Chamber of Commerce Celil Yaka appreciated the work of the alliance in doing the unified efforts and said alliance has shown that when several hands join together it has a positive impact.
Weekly Pakistan News Bureau Chief Shamim Syed appreciated Senator Lee for her efforts to foster positive relations through strong relations.
He said we feel Pakistan needs trade, as this will help in enhancing economic prosperity and US can be the most important business partner of Pakistan.
