SUMMARY: WOMEN’S EMPOWER THROUGH HONEY BEE FARMING PROJECT PLAN BEE BEFORE AND AFTER THE FLOOD IN PAKISTAN

In 2007Plan Bee was initiated by the Hashoo Foundation to empower women in the remote areas of the Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral of Pakistan by expanding employment opportunities and generating a stable source of income through the sale of high-quality honey.

In 2008, Hashoo Foundation's Women's Empowerment through Honey Bee Farming Project Plan Bee is a Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Featured Commitment, and the winner of the prestigious BBC World Challenge ’08 Global Award.

In 2010, the entire beekeeping community in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral was severely affected by Monsoon rains and floods that started in July and continued until September. These floods resulted in massive infrastructural damage and property losses.

In 2011, Hashoo Foundation worked side-by-side with the flood affected communities and helped most of the  beekeepers by replacing their damaged beehives and production kits, and by providing training and value chain development.  Read about  US Partners Contributed 554 Beehives to 179 Beekeepers.

To date, the project has expanded its reach and impact to the Chitral, Hunza and Skardu regions of Northern Pakistan, and has achieved some significant milestones:
