WATER FILTERS DISTRIBUTION IN AKORA KHATTAK FLOODS RELIEF CAMP, PAKISTAN
Hashoo Foundation's Flood Interventions
Access to clean water is still a challenge. It is an essential and vital need for the families displaced by the floods. Thanks to the generous contribution of our partners in Houston Chapelwood United Methodist Church and NetIP/The Artery we distributed 250 LifeStraw Family water filters in the Nowshera area and Akora Khattak flood relief camp. The filters will improve the water condition to make it safe to drink, cooking and other necessities for more than 1,600 people. The filters will prevent the threat of widespread disease outbreaks.

UPDATES FROM MY TRIP TO PAKISTAN
I recently traveled to the flood affected-areas in Pakistan with members of the Hashoo Foundation (HF) team. I was there for 20 days visiting the various flood relief camps, health units and schools. Women, men, boys and girls of all ages struggle to survive and live a dignified life. It is heart breaking to see the eyes of the children who are sick and dehydrated from drinking flood contaminated water, lack of nutritious meals, and loss of their shelter. There is so much we take for granted, a smile, a glass of water, even the soft touch of a teddy bear…I feel very privileged to have shared time with the affected families, who even under these distressed living conditions, hope to move forward and begin life anew.
I would like to share with you brief videos and pictures I captured during my trip. The images reflect how Hashoo Foundation's relief efforts are giving hope and improving the lives of the people living in these flood-displaced communities.
On behalf of the Hashoo Foundation, I am very grateful to our partners in the United States, Pakistan and the United Kingdom for their generous response during these difficult economic times, and for their support towards the Foundation’s work in Pakistan. Their generosity and valuable contributions have provided much needed humanitarian aid and have touched the lives of thousands of people in Pakistan:
- Treating over 16,000 patients;
- Providing food to over 12,400 people for two weeks, 1,104
- 5-gallon buckets, and 250 water filter family units to purify water of more than 1,600 people;
- Distributing 15,000 liters of bottled water, 400 teddy bears, shoes to more than 65 orphans, dresses to 50 girls, and books to 200 children.
Please read my journals to learn about the simplicity of global aid. Then, think of how you can provide support – could you forward the information to your email list with your own personal note for support, perhaps provide your own donation with the donation button at the end of the message. Perhaps you can think of a way to be supportive that’s innovative. Let your creativity and passion for making a difference be your guide.
I hope you will be inspired by the significant impact helping the Pakistani people can have on the world.
